Will you have the TOEFL exam at the end of this semester?

No.  Since Iowa State University has moved all classes and course activities to an online format, there can be no gatherings of students and teachers.

If I cannot take the paper-based TOEFL, what else can I do?

Because the University has moved all classes to online learning, we will not be able to offer the paper-based TOEFL exam at the end of this semester.  Instead you can use Duolingo.  The cost is similar ($49) and the test can be taken at home.  All students (undergraduate and graduate) can submit a Duolingo score to Iowa State University. Undergraduate students need 100 DET score and the graduate students need 105 DET score.  You can visit their web site for more information and to watch a short video about the test,  There are free practice tests available once you set up an account.  https://englishtest.duolingo.com/applicants  If you have any questions, please contact the IEOP offices at ieop-admins@iastate.edu.

What do I do if I get the score I need?

If you decide to take the test and get the score you need for ISU admission, please let the Director, Karina Silva, know what your score is.  This score will be sent to the Admissions Office and the International Students and Scholars Office. They will review it and make their decision.  If accepted, you will get your offer letter and a new change of level I-20 at the end of the semester.  Until then, you need to continue participating in your IEOP classes’ online activities. Please let us know if you have any questions at ieop-admins@iastate.edu.

My I-20 will expire soon and I will need a program extension.  What do I need to do?

If an IEOP student’s I-20 is expiring, they will need to apply for the program extension through CyStart: https://cystart.its.iastate.edu. An extension is not automatic. Program extensions must be requested at least 2 weeks before the I-20 expires.  More information can be found on the ISSO page here: https://isso.dso.iastate.edu/students/f-1-students/program-extension. Please let us know if you have any questions at ieop-admins@iastate.edu.
